Getting to the Heart of Health Issues

Sometimes health issues and crises that we are experienceing can have an underlying emotional or spiritual cause to them having to do with our mental patterns.  Over the years it has become my "practice" to what is necessary to treat the physical symptoms of the condition but to also look into the potential underlying emotional/spiritual patterns.

I have bee a long time fan of Louise Hay's Book, You Can Heal Your Life and I always look to her "list" of health problems and the mental patterns underlying them.

The most recent example of this for me was when I began experiencing pain and spasms in my left foot.  It surfaced as I started to train for the Ben Speaks 10k road race coming up on 10/10/10 (my birthday).  So, on the surface it certainly appeared as if the change in exercise regime may have set it off.  I had started walking and jogging on the treadmill which I hadn't done for a long time.  The discomfort in my foot was bad enough that  I knew I needed to stop the treadmill.  I was massaging it and icing it, I was rubbing arnica cream on it, taking some ani-inflammatories but nothing seemed to be stopping it.

I have also notied that when a problem is persistent and doesn't seem to be alleviated by normal means, often that is a sign that there is an underlying emotional cause (or your treating the wrong thing).  So I went to Louise's Book and found out that the feet have to do with our understanding of ourselves, of life and of others.  The left side of the body has to do with the feminine side of ourselves, receptivity, taking in and mother energy.  Problems here can indicate an imbalance in your male and female energies.

As I thought about it I realized that I had been in a more agressively active place lately. I had felt like I had a lot on my plate and was in a mindset of "ok, get this done, what's next, now get this done, now get this done"  day in and day out.  I had been squarely focused on aggresively accompishing things.  Aggresiveness is a characteristic of male energy. I realized that perhaps in the process of trying to take of and "nurture" or "mother" these other things in my life, I had neglected to give myself some mothering and allow myself to receive.

Interestingly, right at that same time, I had gone onto Doreen Virtues YouTube site for the Daily Oracle Card Reading and the card for the day was "Mother Mary".  Dealing with issues related to mom or being a mom, she said "have a conversation with your mom even if she is deceased" (which mine is).  The more you forgive and repair this relationship the better relationship you have with women, especially women authority figures.  At the time, I had not been thinking consciously about my mom, nothing had recently triggered any memory of her so I wasn't sure that was it.  Nor was I having any problems with other women.

Nonetheless, I decided to turn on and meditate with a lovely chant from Kurt Van Sickle called "Mother Divine".  As I listened to it I felt myself enveloped in beautiful motherly energy and the sadness of missing my own mother.  So I had that conversation with her and let the tears fall, telling her how much I missed her and how much I loved her and appreciated her.

Shortly thereafter, the pain in my foot subsided.  I was able to join some of my women colleage friends for a walk around the pond to train for the 10k.  I have also had that realization that there is just too much on my plate and its time to let go of some things.

This is just one example, I have actually had quite a few health issues resolve from going after the root cause, the underlying emotional issue.  It's worth looking at both sides of a health issue not just for the improvement of the issue but also for your own personal growth.
